Abstract

<![if !vml]>orhan<![endif]> The talk will be on “Current Trends in Telecommunications”. Communications is not only a necessity but also it is a need. As a result, humankind has always developed ways of communications. The tools and techniques used for communication changed from primitive ones into today’s high speed communication networks. The invention of the alphabet in approximately 3500 BC, the technological developments of the XIXth century are some important steps in improving human communication. This talk will take us through the history of communications and emphasize current trends in the field. After a brief overview of the development of telecommunications from the days of smoke signals to date, current trends such as convergence of communications technologies together with their challenges, opportunities, and implications on research will be explored. Topics such as developments in Mobile Communications, next generation technologies, LTE, handoff strategies, multimedia communication, orbital angular momentum, and cognitive radio will be covered.
