Parallel computing and it’s relevance to computational biology

Professor Rosni Abdullah

Parallel computing has made a comeback with the emergence of powerful processing elements such as multicores and GPUs.  The way forward to gain performance is to deploy parallelism. This is especially relevant in computational biology where the size of dataset grows at an exponential rate. In this talk, we present the emerging parallel architecture and the associated parallel programming paradigms. The parallel bipartite graph matching algorithm for protein tertiary structural data will be illustrated as a case study.
