Abstract
The StreetCAV project in Milton Keynes, UK, is currently conducting trials of autonomous shuttle buses operating along a primary route within the city centre. Central to this project are advanced technological systems, including innovative software platforms enabling remote operation of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs), a Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication framework designed to integrate data from surrounding infrastructure, and a Data Exchange (DX) platform collecting diverse urban data to facilitate smart city applications. Despite significant potential, innovative technological solutions often encounter barriers to achieving meaningful real-world implementation and scalability. This presentation evaluates the software platforms underpinning the StreetCAV initiative, examining key challenges and barriers that must be addressed to enable successful, scalable real-world applications of innovative technology.
