IoT Applications

Abstract
The emergence of IoT has resulted in a vast array of connected devices and a diverse set of applications. Its success has demonstrated the ability of connected devices to transform homes, cities and industries. This talk will draw on practical examples from smart homes, smart cities and autonomous drone systems to examine some of the key challenges with industrialising IoT. The challenges considered will include both technical and commercial. Finally, the presentation will propose some of the societal challenges that are beginning to emerge as technologies like IoT and AI have increasingly critical roles in society.

Short Bio:
Andrew is a Research Fellow at Ulster University, based within the BT Ireland Innovation Centre (BTIIC), where his research focuses on leveraging data science to address complex challenges in telecommunications networks and services. With over 20 years of experience in research and innovation, Andrew has previously held senior roles at BT, including leading the Future Smart Infrastructure Research Team for several years. He also has extensive experience in research governance and technology strategy. Throughout his career, Andrew has contributed to numerous patents, awards, publications and innovations in the field of telecommunications.
